Florida Marlins
(Last Update 5/11/08) |
Kevin Gregg |
Gregg has been struggling all season. He has a has a 12:9 K:BB
ratio through 17.2 innings and 6 saves. He ERA is reasonable,
but keep an eye out for Matt Lindstrom and Logan Kensing |
Matt Lindstrom Logan Kensing
Taylor Tankersley |
Boston Red Sox
(Last Update 5/11/08) |
Jonathon Papelbon |
Papelbon blew 2 saves in a row this week before
locking down his 11th. I wouldn't worry about it. They
were flukes (one because of a Lugo error) and he can't save them all. |
Hideki Okajima |
Detroit Tigers
(Last Update 5/11/08) |
Todd Jones |
Todd Jones is looking terrible this season. He has collected 5
saves, but only 6 K's in 14 innings and even worst a ERA of 4.50 and a
WHIP of 1.50. Get Rodney at some point for when he gets back. |
Committee |
St Louis Cardinals
(Last Update 5/11/08) |
Ryan Franklin |
Wow, when Jason Isringhausen says he doesn't want to close anymore or
at least shouldn't be that is bad. Ryan Franklin will take over
for now with committee support from Russ Springer. |
Russ Springer |
San Franciso Giants
(Last Update 5/3/08) |
Brain Wilson |
Wilson blew his first save on May2nd, but has looked sharp saving 9
saves. his ERA at 4.15 and WHIP of 1.62 are some concern for
roto leagues. |
Committee |
Cleveland Indians
(Last Update 5/3/08) |
Rafael Betancourt
|
With Borowski out with an injury for the time being the closer in
Bentancourt. He should be a solid closer and may assume the job
if Kobayashi can hold the 8th innings down with Perez. |
Committee
|
Baltimore Orioles
(Last Update 5/3/08) |
George Sherrill |
Sherrill has notched his 11th save on Friday, but has a 4.97 ERA to
boot. 10 K's in 12.2 innings is good, but not exciting. |
Committee |
Houston Astros
(Last Update 5/3/08) |
Jose Valverde |
Valverde is looking very good. According to reports he changed
his mechanics a bit by holding the ball higher. Its improved his
accuracy and his velocity is up to 96 MPH. He's notched 3 saves
in a row and 4 of his last 5. |
Doug Brocail |
Colorado Rockies
(Last Update 5/3/08) |
Brian Fuentes |
Manny Corpas is long gone. Cut him if you need the roster spot.
Fuentes has 3 saves since his departure and is looking good. |
Manny Corpas |
Toronto Blue Jays
(Last Update 5/3/08) |
BJ Ryan |
He isn't 100% back yet in control or velocity, but he is saving games
and doing well. He will get stronger each week. |
Jason Frasor
Scott Downs
Jeremy Accardo |
Chicago Cubs
(Last Update 5/3/08) |
Kerry Wood |
The Cubs closer got hammered by the Brewers and blew his 3rd save in 7
tries. Pinella is sticking with him, but for how long is now the
question. |
Carlos Marmol
Bob Howry |
Seattle Mariners
(Last Update 4/27/08) |
JJ Putz
|
Putz is back. He has yet to get a save opportunity, but came
into to a non save situation on Saturday and gave up 2 runs, 2 hits
and 3 walks. He did all that in 1 inning. I wouldn't worry
about it. Just working the kinks out. Start him ASAP. |
Mark Lowe
Brandon Morrow
|
Washington
Nationals
(Last Update 4/20/08) |
Jon Rauch |
Rauch is officially the closer in Washington. Cordero is still
there and with Rauch on saving at a 60% clip Cordero could get his job
back. Right now its all about velocity and arm strength.
We will keep a close eye on this situation. |
Chad Cordero |
Atlanta Braves
(Last Update 4/17/08) |
Manny Acosta |
With
Soriano is out on the 15-Day DL, and now Peter Moylan the job now
rests with Manny Acosta. He has been hit hard this year, but his
mindset might change in the closer role. He does have experience
as a closer from the minors, so he is their best option. |
Peter Moylan
Mike Gonzalez |
Texas Rangers
(Last Update 3/20/08) |
C.J. Wilson |
Wilson so far is holding onto the job, but Fukumori has had an
outstanding spring with a 0.00 ERA in 7 innings and 7 strikeouts.
In Japan he had control problems, but so far only 1 walk. Kepp an eye
on this situation. |
Kazuo Fukumori
Joaquín Benoit
|
New York Yankees
(Last Update 2/2/08) |
Mariano Rivera |
Full time closer for the Yankees. He's one of the best of all
time, but father time is setting in. He signed a big 4 year deal
with the Yankees, so I would expect him to go downhill from this point
forward. He should have a solid year, but his best days are
behind him. |
Jaba Chamberlain |
San Diego Padres
(Last Update 2/2/08) |
Trevor Hoffman |
Full time closer in San Diego. Trevor is still one of the best.
Every year we expect his numbers to decrease, but not yet. We
don't think he will get 40+ saves this season after minor elbow
surgery, but 35+ should
happen. |
Clay Meredith |
Los Angeles Dodgers
(Last Update 2/2/08) |
Takashi Saito |
Saito was amazing last season with 39 saves and a 1.40 ERA.
Consider him a great closer on a average team. With the dodgers
inability to score runs we see him getting several opportunities and
40+ in an injury free season is in the bank. |
Jonathon Broxton |
Los Angeles Angels
(Last Update 2/2/08) |
Francisco Rodriguez |
Full time closer for the Angels. In our opinion he's the top
closer on the market. With the improvements the Angels made in
the off-season we expect him to get 45+ saves. |
Scott Shields |
New York Mets
(Last Update 2/2/08) |
Billy Wagner |
Full time closer for the Mets. Wagner had some tough luck last
season, but finished strong with 34 saves. With the Mets adding
Santana and other support we see him getting more opportunities.
40+ saves should happen. |
Committee |
Arizona Diamondbacks
(Last Update 2/2/08) |
Brandon Lyon |
This is a job up for grabs with the loss of Jose Valverde. Its
between 2 guys, Tony Peña and Brandon Lyons.
Since Lyons has closing experience we think at this point he's the guy
for the job. |
Tony Peña |
Tampa Bay Rays
(Last Update 2/2/08) |
Troy Percival |
Wow, Interesting situation. With Reyes crash last season the
Rays are desperate and have picked up on Troy Percival who looked good
in limited action last season for St. Louis. |
Al Reyes |
Chicago White Sox
(Last Update 2/2/08) |
Bobby Jenks |
Full time closer in Chicago. He will have some light pressure
put on him with Dotel, but its his job to lose. He should get
around 35-40 saves this season. Keep an eye on how well Dotel
pitches. |
Octavio Dotel |
Cincinnati Reds
(Last Update 2/2/08) |
Francisco Cordero |
Perfect team for Cordero to close for.
Its his job full time. He will be backed up by a committee of
pitchers lead by David Weathers. He should rack up 35-40 saves. |
David Weathers |
Kansas City Royals
(Last Update 2/2/08) |
Joakim Soria
|
Not a good option, but its his job to lose. Jimmy Gobble will
put some pressure on him for the job. Either way this is a very
low valued team closer no matter who it is. |
Jimmy Gobble |
Minnesota Twins
(Last Update 2/2/08) |
Joe Nathan |
Full time closer in Minnesota. He's one of the best and throws a
fastball in the very high nineties. Great pick up for a closer. |
Pat Neshek |
Pittsburgh Pirates
(Last Update 2/2/08) |
Matt Capps |
Full time closer for the Pirates. Matt has big time stuff, but
has had problems with the mental part of the game. He's a young
closer with big potential. Beware that the Pirates could use him
as trade bait at the deadline. |
Dámaso Marte |
Philadelphia
Phillies
(Last Update 2/2/08) |
Brad Lidge |
He's back and he will be the full time closer in Philadelphia. Tom
Gordon will compete with him, but Gordon is seen as a pivital set up
man. Keep an eye on him, he's crashed before. Have Gordon
on your roster. |
Tom Gordan |
Oakland Athletics
(Last Update 2/2/08) |
Houston Street |
Full time closer in Oakland. Had some injury problems last
season, but he's back. We think he will have a 40+ save season if he
stays healthy. |
Alan Embree |
Milwaukee Brewers
(Last Update 5/11/08) |
Eric Gagne |
How much more worthless can this guy get? He's blown 6 saves and
only notched 9 saves. His ERA is nearly 7 and his WHIP is
dangerously close to 2.00. Get Guillermo Mota if you can! |
