Injury Reports

We are now entering the part of the season that some players are losing jobs while others are winning starting roles. Then there are the players who get injured.

This is the time of the year we can find a few gems that can help us for a week, month or even the rest of the year if you get lucky

The best way to keep up to date with the simplest read and most up to date and most importantly FREE. GO TO - http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/transactions

Now when you have a player who ends up on the transaction page find the player who is filling in for him and keep an eye on him. If needed get the player or someone else off free agency.

Marathon not a Sprint

If you have never played fantasy baseball there are going to be weeks where you just cant get anything going at all. the most important thong to remember that no matter what happens, even if it is for week after week, you will not have much to worry about especially if you have a solid roster. all it takes is a few injuries to your opponents and you will be back in the race. Never panic and drop players who are under achieving. always look to improve your roster but never go crazy with free agency or trading.

early pitching tips

Hi everyone.

Today i am going to help those of you in leagues that have inning limitations. If possible fill your roster with as many closers/relief pitchers as they will accumulate 3 to 4 stats that can win you weeks, but not waste your innings. then in mid season try to get some of the hot new comers who are filling in for injured starters and then by the end of the year you can trade and even pick up starters as many managers will be in inning trouble and will need to move to closers. You will be able to pick up many middle to good pitchers late in the year this way so if you don't have great starters don't panic as you can get some throughout the year.

Also. If a pitcher is dropped due to injury and you have a DL or IR spot available on your bench then pick him up and stick him in it till he is ready to play. Remember that you will have to drop someone from you active roster for him so be careful who you drop. I suggest not to activate the DL pitcher till you are certain he is back to true form and worth dropping someone else. Even if you don't activate him for a while as your roster is hot he is not available for another manager to use. I have recent done this with John Smoltz who is now pitching 20 pitch sessions and might be moved to a spring training start coming up soon. go get him and put him on IR while he is available and still able to go on the IR spot

Free Agents

Today as I am sitting at a Sports bar in Las Vegas I am watching a fantasy report on ESPN. All my past reports were reconfirmed so i thought i would once again remind you that the most important thing is to not act rashly. But then again i broke my own rule as i needed to make a serious change on my expert roster in order to maintain my first place status after laying down the law on my boss THE TRUE GURU last week.

What I want you to remember is that sometimes every rule can be broken if you truly believe it wont reflect negatively on your lineup. My trade statistically was a loser, but when you look at my roster it is a winner. I am very deep in outfield and only have one relief pitcher. so i used Cliff Lee and Matt Holiday to get me Bobby Jenks a good relief closer and a hot rookie who will be 6th on my outfield list and if he continues will allow me to trade another of my guys for a solid relief guy.

That is what i am trying to point out here. Stock pile where you are strong and use trade bait to strengthen your weaknesses. true i gambled, but it was a gamble that i could afford to take as my two strongest positions where starters and outfields.

good luck all

Setting Line Ups

As we are about to set our weekly line ups tomorrow in those leagues that only allow you to set them once a week it is important to remember one thing. DONT OVER THINK. The common thing is to bench a cold stud for a hot nobody and then in week two or three the stud comes to life leaving you in the lose column. remember you didnt draft a guy in the top ten rounds only to sit him for a guy you drafted in round 20. Now, of course there are casees that you will need to sit a stud. maybe he is hurt or limited and you have a bench player hot in the same position. It is very important that you follow the injury report of what is happening with your team. most leagues will have a red cross beside your player if there is a concern for the health of the player in the immediate future.

One final note. Please never drop a player who has been a consistant producer in the past for a player who has been good in week one. Let go of a bench player for a free agent in most cases.

Hot or Not

If you look over all the hot players you will see a lot of free agents. The question is do you act on them. I am going to offer some advice on what to do and where.

If you are weak at 1st base and there is a hot free agent then try a pick up, but never and i mean never lose faith on a stud or a middle round pick after 2 or 3 games. Drop a bench player especially when one of them is not playing or wont be a consistent starter.

A sleeper if you have a weak catcher is Brandon Inge. Depending on the league he is a 3b, OF, & CATCHER. A muti position player who should be an asset on your roster at this point.

There is a lot of others out there and the most important thing is to look for upgrading, but not to loose faith on studs.

Assessing players winning jobs

I will not go into to much detail about all the players winning jobs at the moment but today's news of Huston Street of the Rockies winning the closer (pitcher) made me worry about the rookies out there who might rush out to draft him.

With him and any other player you have to first look at the situation. is this one favourable for the team and the player. is that team going to win many games. do they play in a division with great pitching, or vise verse get power.

What i am saying here is just because a player is going to start opening day does not mean he will keep the job beyond April.

Lets look at Street. He will have to go up against the great pitching and bats of the Red Sox and the Yankees. In my eyes this division is stacked with games that he might not even take the field so any closer winning the job will find themselves with a few extra nights off. Now with saying that they will be rested for the other games that they do get to close.

I cant tell you not to take street, but i myself would not look to him to the closing rounds of a long draft. Draft an ace closer around 10 and then fill in the blanks in the late teens.

Good luck all
