Preparing for Draft Day part 1
Hello Everyone, Aj Pelletier here with your fantasy advice for all you novices. Throughout the year we will discuss some of the basics along with many tips to have you compete with experts of all kinds. Look for me to be posting 2 blogs a week; one on the weekend to help you set your lineups each week and the second during the mid-week to help with hot free agent pick ups.
Till the Draft season hits, i will be discussing different ways to get you ready for the big draft day/s. Each blog will expand a topic in order to help you get prepared.
Today we are going to discuss the fine art of league types. As per any sport of fantasy there are different scoring systems for every league type. the most important thing to do is to understand your league type and scoring not 99%, but 100%.
You have your standard HEAD 2 HEAD league which is where you play a different opponent each week. Another aspect to the h2h is how the scoring will be run. most leagues are in a rotisserie base, but some are a point base. Rotisserie is a league where the scoring of each category in the league is matched against your opponent with the winner of the category being awarded a point. some leagues have 10 categories, while others have less or more. Most leagues will go with the 5x5 scoring system. what that means is that there are 5 batting categories and 5 pitching categories. we will get into the scoring of these categories later once the leagues have opened up so you can follow along when you are reading the blog. some other leagues play a straight rotisserie where you play all the managers in the league for all 5x5 categories. the winner of each category will receive a point and the points accumulate throughout the year, ranking the managers from first to last according to who has the most points up to that point. we will discuss strategies on how to play these leagues once we have talked about the scoring of most leagues. the objective is to dominate in as many categories, winning you the most h2h match ups or points per week. sometimes to dominate in most categories you will need to surrender one or two in doing so, hoping to get lucky in free agency throughout the year in filling the spots. we will discuss more strategies when we get closer to draft season. until then if you have the chance to look over your league type, study the rules. things to look for are if you play one manager or every manager each week. another is to check the amount of categories and what they are. is it a 5x5 or 7x7. make sure you understand what it takes to score points in each one of these.
